W. rurner. Late reports !-ay he is improving. The Rev and Mrs. A. J. Foster, Columbia. S. C„ are at their cot tage on Tupper road. Billy Joe Price, thirteen-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Neil Price, has been ill with rheumatic fever for several weeks. Dr. W. W. Williams, Jackson ville, a former state secretary of Sunday school work in Florida, is spending several days at his cot tage on Bowers avenue. At Cozy Corner cottage, the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Tom E. Walters, the marriage of Jane Maude Williams and Morris Lance, both of Asheville, took place Fri day afternoon, July 9. The ring ceremony was user! by the Rev. Mr. \\ alters. V itnessing the wedding were Grace Littlejohn and Mrs. Clifton Richey of Ware Shoals, S. C., and Lois Ellen Ray of China and Baylor University, Waco, Texas. Marjorie Quinn, star pitcher of the girls softball team, is recover ing from a broken ankle recieved several day's ago in a practice game. Although the injured limb is in a cast, Marjorie continues to watch other members of the team practice. She also attends the games at Black Mountain. Other mem bers of the team are: Annabelle Turner, Vanetta Black, Edna Smith, Joyce Belcher, Lavina Holli field, Anola Hamby, Rena Lann ing. Jo Creasman, Dot Quinn, Barbara Allred, Nellie Biddix, and Alice Turner, Manager. Mrs. Nell Price received a mes sage of the serious illness of her sister, Mrs. Owen Stole of AValnut, now at Aston Park hospital, Ashe ville . Miss Mary Spate received a mes sage Friday morning of the sud den death of her brother-in-law, J. P. Bunn of Battleboro, of a heart attack. Ralph Lake of Greensboro is spending the summer with his grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. J. N. Binford. Terry Perkins, little son of Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Perkins, Jr., is recovering from an illness which kept him in a week. Mrs. J. H. Rose of Benson, Jimmy Creech and Cora Bell Ives of Smithfield, and Mrs. Margaret Stancil of Raleigh spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. N. L. Perkins at “Dreams End.” Dr. James R. Stancil, eye, ear, nose, and throat specialist, left Saturday for his home in Belling ham, Washington, ofter spending a week with his sister, Mrs. N. L. Perkins. Mrs. J. R- Queen of Lavoma, Ga., is spending her vacation of two weeks with her sister, Mrs. Victor Creasman. Mrs. John Kelly of Black Moun tain is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Victor Creasman. Miss Elizabeth Parks of Oteen had dinner last Sunday with Mrs. Justin McSweeney. H. B. Craven left yesterday for Lakeland and Jacksonville, Fla., on a business trip. He will return Tuesday. Roy and Troy Lanning are en gaged with Camp Ridgecrest for Boys in the Culinary Department. The Rev. J. N. Binford supplied the pulpit of the First Baptist church, Cullowhee, Sunday morn ing and the Calvary Baptist church. Canton, Sunday evening. - Robin Cole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cole, has recovered from a recent illness. NORTH FORK VISITORS Mr. and Mrs. James A. Alex ander, Jr. and their sons Roger and Tommy have returned to their home in Cherry Point, N. C. after spending two weeks visiting Mrs. Alexander’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stone of North Fork road, Black Mountain, and Mr. Alex ander’s father, J. A. Alexander of Swannanoa. MOORE GUESTS Mrs. J. L. Willis of Rock Hill, S. C., arrived Thursday for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Moore. News Deadline 4 p. m. Tuesday Dancing Classes Are Discontinued The dancing school which has been held at the club house each Wednesday morning, has been dis continued because of the polio sit uation. The classes consisted of rhythmic exercises and tapping lessons, un der the direction of Miss Hyatt of Asheville. Miss Hyatt sends her regrets to all the children, as she had enjoyed teaching them. s Some of the students who at tended the dancing school were Barbara White, Toni Taylor, Judy Byrd, Carolyn Hudson, Peggy Cooley, Beth Summey, Nonie and Kay Greene, Bobbie Babb, Pat Randolph, Mac Kirkpatrick and Tommy Sobol. It is hoped that the class can continue after school starts, and will be open for all children. WILL PLAY FRIDAY Eugene Byrd, president of the Church Softball league, announced today that the games which were postponed Monday night because of rain would be played off Fri day, July 16. The Baptists will play the Hosiery Mill in the first game and the Methodists will take on the powerful Friendship Chapel boys in the nightcap. MRS. GODFREY HONORED Mrs. C. C. Stinnett, Jr., from Alexandria, Va., spent the past week in Black Mountain with Mr. and Mrs. Russells on their honeymoon. Mrs. Russell Is Mr. Stinnett’s aunt. —Mrs. Dennis Figeroux and daughter, Suzette of Havana, ar rived Wednesday to spend two weeks with Mrs. C. E.
